Suprising claims are surfacing in the story of American POW Jessica Lynch, including that she was neither stabbed nor shot as claimed in the media, and -- perhaps most suprising -- that hospital personnel attempted to smuggle her out and into American custody two days prior to her rescue, only to be shot at and forced to flee by troops.

Story here.

The fact that the solider's were going into an environment where one of their fellow solider's was being held without having any idea as to whether or not there were people guarding her probably means they are going to go in with guns drawn, knocking down doors, but for their own safety. Nine of the solider's in her company had already been killed, it's not as if you always know what intelligence to trust and what not to trust(how many solider's were killed from a fake surrender, or car bomb?). For their own safety that's the way it should have been done, and that's the way it was done.

It's not as if they are just going to walk into this hospital and say we're here to pick up Jessica. That's completely absurd. As far as them shooting at an ambulance who knows what actually happened there, did the driver speak english, were vehicles only allowed so close to the checkpoint, not to mention you could probably hide a bomb much easier in an ambulance as opposed to some small car.

All because there may not have been some shootout doesn't make the mission any less dangerous for the soldier's going in. Sure it may not have been quite as glamorous as portrayed but to act like it was just a walk in the park is ridiculous.

ClayHenry, you have a point inasmuch as the military does an inherently dangerous job, and never knows quite what to expect in a given situation.

But why the camera crew then?

And while the troops were facing casualties from idiots in vehicles, an ambulance might warrant a certain degree of checking out before opening fire.

I suppose it's the wrong pov for me to say 'Military' propoganda in the subject of this thread. It strikes me more as CNN-fodder than something baked up on the official side, in retrospect.
